Beghaus Product Development - The
Soft Shell Revolution
Soft Shell is the phrase on everybody's lips at the moment
and Berghaus' new
garments in this category are here for Autumn/Winter 2003.
But what is Soft
Shell and what does it do? Berghaus soft shell garments are
designed to
replace two layers of a conventional clothing system - the
outer shell layer
and the insulation layer - with a single garment that acts
as a high
performance mid layer.
Berghaus Soft Shell products use W.L. Gore WINDSTOPPER®
fabrics and are
completely windproof, offer a high level of water resistance
(provided by a
combination of the membrane and the Durable Water Repellent
finish), stretch
for freedom of movement and are highly breathable and very
durable.
The garments do not feature taped seams so are not classed
as waterproof but
they will offer protection against most weather conditions
encountered and
can be used under a lightweight shell should conditions turn
severe.
Products in the Soft Shell range are:
Guide Jacket
Made out of Gore WINSTOPPER® Action with Gore WINDSTOPPER®
Trango
reinforcements at the shoulder and hips. Designed for the
mountains and cut
for active use with articulated sleeves, it's ideal for high
octane
endeavours. Features include a rollaway hood for extra protection
from the
elements when necessary, reach across zipped chest pocket
and two handwarmer
pockets. Ventilation is provided in the form of pit zips and
comfort
features include a deep snug neck and inner Lycra® cuffs.

Guide Pants
A perfect partner to the jacket, made out of GORE Windstopper®
Action with
Gore Windstopper® Trango reinforcements at key abrasion
points. Produced
with a 3D articulated shaped cut, these pants offer exceptional
freedom of
movement and are ideal for energetic outdoor activities. Two
zipped hip
pockets offer storage and there are side leg venting options
on both legs.

Cyclone and Tempest
Made for active use the Cyclone and Tempest offer windproof
protection and
pack down easily. The Cyclone is specifically cut for women
and both jackets
benefit from a range of features. Comfort is provided in the
form of a deep
snug neck and two zipped handwarmer pockets, and an elasticated
hem drawcord
allows the jacket to be adjusted. Because the jacket is for
active use we've
also included Lycra bound cuffs to ensure a snug fit and a
lock down zip
that won't get in your way. And if the rain does start to
fall you don't
need to unpack your shell straight away as the Cyclone also
offers water
resistance making it an ideal one layer alternative to two.
Sizes: 8-16 (Cyclone) and S-XXL (Tempest)
Weight: 501g (Cyclone) and 550g (Tempest)
SRP: £100 (Cyclone) and £100 (Tempest)
