20 Oct: Adapt Outdoors is proud to sponsor Craig Lundberg's Kilimanjaro climb
Adapt Outdoors is proud to sponsor Craig Lundberg's Kilimanjaro climb for Help for Heroes. Craig, a young war veteran will climb Africa’s highest mountain to raise money for injured soldiers.
Craig “Freddie” Lundberg was blinded when enemy forces attacked his unit in Iraq two years ago. On the 24th October, the 24-year-old will start is quest to conquer Mount Kilimanjaro to help other troops wounded in battle. He will climb alongside his former army comrade, Darren Topham, who carried him from the Basra rooftop where he was injured.
Later in the month, Darren will deploy to Afghanistan. Craig, of Walton, says: “I want to do a major challenge every year, and I’ll do it until my body breaks down. “I wanted to support Help for Heroes and climbing Kilimanjaro was ideal because we could do it before Darren deploys.” Lance corporal Lundberg commanded eight men in the 2nd Battalion, Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment when his unit was attacked. He was hit in the chest by a rocket propelled grenade which exploded when it struck his body armour. Craig was mentioned in dispatches for his heroism after he continued to give orders and returned fire, despite losing his left eye.
